Blurb
For the first time in history, people and machinery are working
together, realizing a dream. A uniting force that knows no
geographical boundaries. Without regard to race, creed, or color. A
new era where communication truly brings people together.
This is the Dawn of The Net.
Why
In the late 1990s, the world witnessed a major transition from
traditional telecom systems to the rapidly growing Internet. Many
professionals in the telecom industry struggled to understand the
fundamental differences between these two paradigms.
The film Warriors of the Net was created to explain the concepts
behind the Internet, contrasting its decentralized, packet-switched
nature with the highly controlled and managed circuit-switched
networks of the telecom world. This shift, characterized by the lack
of inherent Quality of Service (QoS) in the Internet, represented a
significant conceptual leap for the telecom industry.
The movie aimed to illustrate these concepts, bridging the knowledge gap for those navigating this transformative era.
Who
The original idea for Warriors of the Net came from Tomas Stephanson.
Gunilla Elam brought the concept to life, crafting all the animations and visualizing how to represent the Internet’s workings.
Niklas Hanberger enriched the film with sound and music, adding a dynamic layer to the storytelling.
Monty Reid provided the narration and contributed to the script, lending his voice and expertise to make the movie engaging and accessible.
When
The movie was created in 1997/1998 at Ericsson Medialab.
Triva
The movie was designed for open distribution on the Internet. To prevent any copyright issues, all images and music were created specifically for the film.
